Management Team
James A. Hamilton
Prior to TippingPoint, Mr. Hamilton was most recently President and Chief Executive Officer of Efficient Networks, Inc., a subsidiary of Siemens AG. Prior to Efficient Networks' acquisition by Siemens in April 2001, he served as Executive Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing as well as General Manager of the company's four products divisions from 1999 to 2001. Prior to Efficient Networks, Mr. Hamilton served as Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Service for Picazo Communications, Inc., an IP telephony company sold to Intel Corporation in late 1999. He has previous experience as Director of the Communications Products Group at Compaq Computer Corporation, Vice President of Sales at NetWorth, Inc., which was sold to Compaq in 1995, and managed the North American reseller channel at 3Com Corporation.
Marc Willebeek-LeMair, PhD.
Dr. Willebeek-LeMair is an expert on network systems and security, speaking frequently on the topic of security specific processors on an international basis. He spent 10 years at the T.J. Watson Research Center of IBM where he was responsible for the exploration of Intelligent Infrastructure Technologies, as well as streaming audio and video applications. Dr. Willebeek-LeMair's extensive background includes research in distributed computing, high speed networking technologies, network caching, personalization and transcoding proxies, network processors and management systems. Having received his doctorate in electrical engineering from Cornell University, he has over 10 patents and has published more than 50 articles. Prior to 3Com, he was chief technology officer for TippingPoint, the leader and pioneer in intrusion prevention systems.
John Thornborrow
John Thornborrow brings over 12 years experience in senior leadership roles in early stage and high growth ventures in industries ranging from Internet networking, Web application performance management, medical device manufacturing and computer software. In his current role with TippingPoint, Mr. Thornborrow leads the Finance / Accounting, IT and Logistics functions for TippingPoint. His previous experience includes CFO / COO at NovusEdge, Inc., a leading provider of IP-based, physical security control systems, CFO / COO at Quinton Cardiology (now Cardiac Science), a leading manufacturer of medical devices designed for the diagnoses and treatment of cardiac disease, and CFO at Matrix NetSystems, the leading provider of Internet performance management information solutions. Mr. Thornborrow holds an MBA in Finance with Honors from The University of Texas at Austin and an BS in Aerospace Engineering with Honors from Texas A&M University.
K. Arlan Harris
A veteran in the high tech industry with more than 25 years of experience, Mr. Harris recently served as the Senior Vice President and General Manager for Siemens Subscriber Networks. Prior to Siemens Subscriber Networks, Mr. Harris was an Executive in Residence with Austin Ventures where he focused on emerging opportunities for converged communications within both the wireline and wireless telecommunications market sector with special emphasis on the deregulated energy sector. In June of 1999, he founded Netensity, Inc., a leading edge telecommunications equipment company focused on integrated broadband voice and data, where he served as Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer. Prior to Netensity, he was an officer of NetWorth, Inc. and held the position of Vice President of Engineering and then General Site Manager for Compaq Computer Corporation after the acquisition of NetWorth by Compaq in December 1995. Prior to NetWorth, Mr. Harris served as a technology management consultant for corporations including EDS Advanced Research, BancTec, OKI Data and others. Mr. Harris started his career with United Technologies, Mostek Corporation in 1977 where he designed and managed the development of numerous leading edge products over a 10-year period. He was a co-author of the VMEbus specification and holds multiple patents. Mr. Harris also serves on the advisory boards of a number early stage technology companies and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Neal Hartsell
Mr. Hartsell brings over twenty years of strategic marketing, product marketing and product management experience in telecommunications and data communications. Mr. Hartsell has held Vice President of Product Marketing positions in a number of companies including Crossroads Systems, TippingPoint, and Surgient Networks. Additionally, he has held senior product marketing management positions at Cisco Systems, ECI Telecom, Northern Telecom and NetSpeed, a market leading start-up acquired by Cisco Systems in 1998. His product marketing experience has been centered on introducing emerging products and technologies into enterprise, service provider and commercial data center network environments. He has also started, owned and operated his own marketing consulting business, Ativa Consulting, Inc., primarily targeted at helping network security appliance companies formulate strategic business planning, marketing planning and go-to-market execution. Mr. Hartsell earned a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of North Carolina and a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from North Carolina State University.
Don Ward
Mr. Ward has 18 years technical consulting, management, and corporate leadership experience in the data and security networking industry. His versatility has served TippingPoint well with significant contributions in the areas of systems/sales engineering, vertical sales/marketing, and services/support. In his current role, Mr. Ward leads all worldwide teams for pre- and post-sales engineering, support, training and professional services. In 2003, he served as VP of Higher Education Sales & Marketing to drive growth in one of TippingPoint's most instrumental early market segments. Prior to TippingPoint, Mr. Ward served senior field and corporate leadership roles with TopLayer Networks, Metera Networks and Cisco Systems. Mr. Ward holds an engineering degree in Telecommunications Engineering Technology from Texas A&M University.
Preston Lawhorne
Mr. Lawhorne brings over 30 years of successful, proven sales and management experience to TippingPoint. He joins TippingPoint from Network Associates where he was area vice president for the Southeast United States. Prior to Network Associates, Mr. Lawhorne was regional director for Oracle Corporation. Previously, he held the positions of vice president of North American Sales at Memorex Telex Corporation for the mid-range systems division and Western area sales manager at Stratus Computer. He was also formerly the regional manager for Data General. He began his career at Burroughs Corporation where he held various sales and sales management positions over a fourteen year period.
